BREAKING NEWS: 3 players who can shatter Wilt Chamberlain’s 100-point game record

by TLD

For 60 years, Wilt Chamberlain’s 100-point game has stood as the NBA’s single-game high-scoring mark. Records were made to be broken, however, and that seemingly insurmountable mark could eventually fall too. In fact, with scoring up around the NBA, it’s entirely possible that one player currently in the league could one day hold up a piece of paper with 101 points on it.

Doing so would require a balanced offensive effort that included both scoring inside and outside the arc as well as getting to the free throw line at will. Few players have all three skills, and scoring 101 points would take an incredible amount of talent, and even some luck, but it’s doable. With this in mind, let’s examine the three players most likely to break Chamberlain’s 100-point record.

NBA Player #3: Luka Doncic

Dallas Mavericks superstar Luka Doncic’s scoring prowess has been on full display this summer during EuroBasket. The fifth-year player averaged a terrific 26.6 points, 7.6 rebounds, and 6.8 assists in just 32.8 minutes per game. While EuroBasket is a step-down talent-wise from NBA defenses, Doncic hasn’t had much trouble scoring in the NBA either.

Last season, he ranked third in the NBA in scoring, averaging 28.4 points, and has shown the type of explosive scoring ability needed to make a run at Chamberlain’s 100-point record. Against the Los Angeles Clippers earlier this year, Doncic went off. He scored a career-high 51 points on just 35 shots and mixed up his scoring attack by attempting 21 two-pointers, 14 threes, and 14 free throws.

While he was only halfway towards surpassing Chamberlain, he’s definitely capable of more, especially with his step-back falling. That shot allows him to create and knock down threes with defenders in his face. He also has the ability to score in the paint and draw double-digit free throws, all of which help his case.

Equally as important is the fact that Doncic carries the Mavericks’ offense like few other stars do, allowing him the freedom to take as many shots as he sees fit. It would obviously take a lot of field goal attempts to score anywhere near 100 points, but he’d have the green light as well as the offensive skill needed to get it done.
